Abandoned Stone Village, Achill Island, Ireland
The abandoned village of Slievmore on Achill Island, was known as a "Booley" village. Booleying was the practice of moving from place to place depending on the season in order to allow cattle ample grass for grazing. The entire village was abandoned around 1850 during the Irish famine. At the base of Slievmore mountain, 80 to 100 abandoned cottages lie scattered in tall grass and weeds.
