Home of James Marshall (who Started the California Gold Rush)
During my recent trip to Lambertville, New Jersey, I was surprised to find out that the person who started the California Gold Rush craze had lived there.
James Wilson Marshall lived in a moderately-sized home (now painted in pale yellow with distinctive green shutters) on the main street in Lambertville, and he was the first to discover gold at Sutter's Mill in California in 1848.
There are small walking tours of the city that depart from the Marshall House, and held during the months of June - October each year. They run for an hour, and start at 2:00pm EST.
