Become Wine Wise: CIA Offers Crash Course in Tasting
Have you always wondered what all that swirling and sniffing and slurping and spitting is about? Why doesn't everyone just drink the damn wine? Can one person really identify the zest of a yuzu? Are 'horsehair,' 'used band-aid' and 'crushed Flintstone vitamins' really acceptable wine descriptors?
Each weekend from October to January at the former Copia space in Downtown Napa, the Culinary Institute of America is offering the Explore Napa Valley Wine Series, including how to taste, the basics of food and wine pairing, 'secret' wines of Napa, and how Napa Valley wines compare with other wines made around the world.
The commitment is pretty low (each class is just a couple of hours and only $40, and no, spitting is not required), and you will leave feeling much more savvy and empowered than when you entered, so you can shout it out with pride: Key lime! Fish tank! Just-buttered bread!
