Montreal has a lack of mid-range hotels in general and a lack of hotels of any type in its most interesting and lively neighborhood, le Plateau Mont-Royal. Airbnb to the rescue!
We highly recommend Sami’s apartment through Airbnb where my husband and I spent several pleasant days. Well located a couple of blocks from the large Parc Lafontaine, it comprises a living room – kitchen combination, separate bedroom with a Queen bed, and full bathroom. The apartment is clean, well-equipped, and quiet. Note that the kitchen has a full refrigerator and a complete stove (see photo inset.) Free Wi-Fi is included and there is a flat-screen TV. A laundry room is available. There is a grocery store down the block for times when you do not eat out. Parking is free on the street, but pay close attention to the posted parking regulations and be prepared to re-park a lot.
Lastly, the price is very reasonable, helpful in a town that can be expensive for Americans to visit these days. If you stay in a hotel downtown or in the highly touristy Vieux Montreal area, I think you will miss how the Montrealers actually live in any event.
To find it, go to Airbnb.com and enter Montreal and your dates. On the next page, check Entire Place and More Filters. Under Neighborhoods, check Le Plateau Mont-Royal and click Show Listings. Scroll down to “Apartment Montreal Plateau” for this apartment.
There are quite a few other Airbnb choices in this neighborhood as well as you will see.
