365 Days of Birding and Whale Watching
With wide swaths of pristine tropical forests, Dominica teems with more than 179 species of rare birds, including the Blue-headed Hummingbird, the Plumbeous Warbler, the Purple-throated Carib, Red-Necked (Jaco) Parrot, and the green, black, violet-colored Imperial (Sisserou) Parrot in eye-catching hues of green, black, and violet—it’s the world’s largest Amazona parrot and Dominica’s national bird.

Here’s another fun fact: Dominica is the only Caribbean island nation—and the only country in the world—where sperm whales can be spotted year-round. Six different whale species migrate past Dominica’s shores throughout the year, with peak season stretching from November to March.
