Open Your Eyes to Design in Everyday Life

21_21 DESIGN SIGHT is a design museum, that was created by architect Tadao Ando and fashion designer Issey Miyake. It opened in 2007 in Roppongi. Surrounded by a small park, its architecture fits in beautifully, with much of the structure expanding below the surface.

The general idea of the museum is to redirect our eyes and thinking with regards to the everyday, taking the role of design into account. The museum's size is not overwhelming. I spent about an hour there, exploring the most creative exhibit on insects, geared towards adults and kids. The presentations ranged from an insect leg, enlarged to fit the height of a room, to recordings of the different communication styles of an ant. Playful larvae eggs were randomly attached to the walls throughout the show. An incredible amount of care, playfulness and intelligence had gone into creating this unique experience, that I feel no matter what 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT presents: GO SEE IT.

My warmest thank you – domo arigato gozai masu – to the @SuntoryGlobal team, who went above and beyond, introducing me to Japan's food and drink culture. I'm forever in your debt. #SuntoryTime #SuntoryTimeTour
