I reminisce of my hay-days in Chicago, exploring the depths of a little neighborhood called Pilsen. Six years ago, street vendors (picture above taken 4 months ago) would tempt me with cotton candy, sweet breads, and tamales. Today, the guys are few and far between. Once a Czech immigrant community, it’s now a town influenced by Mexican descent. Though it may look a little rough around the edges, this neighborhood is now an urban, hip area with local small businesses. Funky cafes, upscale vintage boutiques, and great new restaurants line the main street. A reason to visit Pilsen in October is their annual art walk called Pilsen Open Studios - one of the premier events of the citywide Chicago Artists Month. Local artists open their studios once a year to the public. The old charm is still strong here. If walking around here alone makes you a little shaky, try signing up for a walking tour on The Murals of Pilsen with Joyce Walks.

Beautiful outdoor event space
In the heart of the Pilsen neighborhood is a little, hidden gem. Only half a block away from Honky Tonk BBQ is an old church & event space with a large outdoor grassy area. Secluded and easy to reach, it is a great place for events. Honky Tonk will cater for you too! Budget friendly and available to create your own experience. I went to a friend’s wedding here and it was very memorable~the Secret Garden.
