So many people pay money to drive along the famous 17 mile drive in Carmel....did you know that you can bicycle along this route for free? Taking a bicycle is much better anyway because there are a lot of stops along the route. If you didn’t bring your own bike, there are at least a half dozen bike rental places in Pacific Grove, the town at one end of 17 mile drive. Go ahead and stop at the gate to pick up a self guided tour map of the route. Each location is marked with a number and a description of the history. Bicycling is better since you can start at Pacific Grove and end up in Carmel and this route is completely free for cyclists and hikers. Hiking some parts are okay, but the northern end goes through neighborhoods that wouldn’t be worth the hike, so a bicycle is recommended here! If you’re an avid cyclist, you’ll enjoy this ride!
