Summer is Miami’s hottest season—and not just temperature-wise.

It’s time to rethink Miami as a summer destination. While summer beach vacations in other parts of the country can bust the budget, deals in Miami are at their most attractive in July and August. Prices at the city’s best hotels drop significantly (hello, affordable suite upgrades!), and summer specials include discounts at Miami’s most luxurious spas.

Summer is also a fabulous time to hotel hop without packing your bag. Booking a spa treatment often includes access to exclusive pools and lounge spaces usually reserved for hotel guests. Spa discounts are available through Miami Spa Month, an annual two-month event in July and August that offers treatments at the city’s best spas for as low as $109.

Travel to Miami in the summer can be dismissed for steamy temperatures (average daily highs in Miami Beach are 88 degrees in July and 89 degrees in August, with average lows of 78 degrees and 79 degrees, respectively), but savvy travelers know to enjoy the beaches in the morning and late afternoon, leaving midday wide open to explore the city’s excellent spas.

The bringing-nature-indoors aesthetic of the 1 Hotel South Beach shines in the Bamford Haybarn Spa, a tranquil space that uses organic skincare products. Several treatment options are available for $109, including a 50-minute Swedish massage, a 50-minute facial, or a 50-minute pregnancy massage. Each Spa Month reservation includes a glass of housemade kombucha and a complimentary chair to enjoy on the hotel’s 600-foot-long beach after your treatment.

The Spa at the Confidante offers an open-air rooftop spa on the hotel’s 10th floor. Treatments take place in private, air-conditioned spa cabanas, and there’s a breezy space to relax pre- and post-treatment beneath brightly striped umbrellas. For $109, you can choose between a summer glow package (body exfoliation and airbrush spray tan) or an 80-minute Swedish massage. Treatment extras include a free glass of prosecco and access to the hotel’s palm-shaded pool.

After a manicure, pedicure, and 50-minute facial ($109) at the GUYandGIRL Spa at Mondrian South Beach, your Spa Month treatment opens the door to the hotel’s expansive pool with views of Biscayne Bay and downtown Miami (views are especially stellar at sunset). A manicure, pedicure, and massage with lemongrass-sage foot scrub combo is also available for $109. Don’t leave the Mondrian without a swing in the hammocks strung up in the shady garden.

Spa lovers looking to combine a treatment and a healthy, vibrant meal should check out the specials at the Aveda Spa at the Palms Hotel. A 65-minute Head to Toe Revival ($109) includes a 50-minute massage or facial plus a 15-minute scalp ritual; the 95-minute Total Body Rejuvenation ($139) includes an 80-minute massage and a 15-minute scalp ritual. Afterward, kick back at the large pool (access is included) or at Essensia Restaurant, home to a Caribbean-style covered terrace with whirling overhead fans and a fresh menu, with ingredients sourced from the hotel’s on-site garden. (Try the Caribbean shrimp bowl with black rice, caramelized plantains, grilled mini peppers, and tomato-coconut sauce.)

A treatment at The Betsy Wellness Garden & Spa starts with a visit to its aromatherapy bar. Spa Month options include a 50-minute After-Sun Tropical Retreat Massage ($109) and a 50-minute Enlightenment Facial ($109), aimed at clearing problematic skin. All Spa Month treatments include access to The Betsy’s serene rooftop pool. While the scene at some Miami pools is focused on upbeat music and ample frozen drinks, The Betsy—which is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World—delivers a sophisticated alternative with a peaceful space to swim, read, and nap under large umbrellas.
