One of the world’s foremost international art fairs will set up shop in Los Angeles next year, cementing the city’s status as a rising global arts capital. In a statement made on February 22, Frieze confirmed that it will inaugurate a Los Angeles fair, joining Frieze New York, Frieze London, and Frieze Masters on its renowned roster of contemporary art exhibitions.

Frieze LA, which will run February 14–17, 2019, is slated to be housed at Paramount Pictures Studios, the Hollywood studio lot. Bettina Korek and Ali Subotnick—both prominent figures in the Los Angeles art world—have been appointed the fair’s executive director and curator, respectively. Around 60 galleries are expected for Frieze LA’s inaugural edition, which will showcase an eclectic collection of art from across the city and around the world.

“So many great artists and writers have lived and worked in Los Angeles, a city with an incredibly rich landscape of museums, galleries and art schools which play a pivotal role in the international art world,” director of Frieze Fairs, Victoria Siddall, said in a statement. “Frieze LA will add an exciting new dimension to this thriving cultural scene.”

Participating galleries, programs, and additional curators will be announced later this year, so watch this space.
