Motorbiking through rural Vietnam taught me the true meaning of breathtaking scenery. From Nha Trang to Dalat, we encountered the strong Southeast Asian sun beating down on the pristine beaches and endless rice paddies. We worked our way up to the cloud-immersed picturesque mountains and welcomed the fresh air and cool breeze. I found myself short of breath - not because the sudden increase in elevation - but because my heart was so filled with Vietnam's genuine beauty. I literally and figuratively was floating on a cloud nine!
Besides nap-time, I bet bath-time is the best time of both their days. Sure, chores are chores regardless of what part of the world you live, but could anyone tire of riding a majestic elephant into the lake every morning for a rinse? #Ritual
Dalat in Vietnam is a food producing area for the country, with many greenhouses and small farms where vegetables are grown. A visit to the Central Market is a highlight. This two story building has everything for your home and kitchen. Here a shot from the second floor down to a vendor stall of grains and pickled vegetables caught my eye because of the numerous colorful circles when seen from above. If you get to beautiful Dalat - don't miss the market and then stop by the old Post Office home to several nice restaurants.
I visited an orphanage just outside of Dalat, Viet Nam, this past summer. There were 200 children living in the orphanage. Purchased some toys, food and school supplies for the children before arriving. They were all very happy to see us and to get their presents. The picture shows three of the children with their felt tip pens. The whole visit was very moving.
I’m a big fan of the bizarre. Hairstyles, fashion, art – these are all areas you might expect a wide variety of quirkiness – but multi-million dollar buildings are another thing. Through my blog I’ve compiled a list of ten favorites in Asia. From a ‘Crazy House’ in Dalat Vietnam, to a building in Tokyo with a highway running through it, not to mention Bangkok’s very own quirky ‘Robot Building’ – Asia has no shortage of quirky structures!
The Central Highlands in Vietnam are one of the most scenic and aromatic regions in the country. After all, it's coffee country and when the flowers bloom in the winter, a waft of sweet perfume permeates the air for miles around. And what better way to experience the scents than by motor bike? When I traveled in the region about seven years ago, I hooked up with a local band of merry men called Easy Riders. They offered (and still do, I assume) customized trips along a portion of the historic Ho Chi Minh trail, extending from Dalat in the south to the outskirts of Danang in the north. Squeezing in between suitcase and driver, our group of four traveled the mountainous route through little villages, rice paddies, dense forests and coffee fields, catching all the sights, as well as aromas, as we puttered along.
On a cool morning, when the temperature is 18°C, I travel in Tran Quoc Tuan Street in Da Lat City. Its the best lovely time in memory, the cool in feeling, windy, cloudy.. sound great. Da Lat city is probably one of Vietnam's most well known vacation destination. Since the turn of the century, Da Lat has been the vacation spot for well-to-do vietnamese and foreigners. It is the unofficial honeymoon mecca of Vietnam. Located on Lám Viên (Langbian) high lands, part of the greater Central high lands of Vietnam (Cao Nguyen Trung Phan), the city is 1500 m above sea level and is 305 km from Saigon. The name Da Lat originates from the hill tribe people in this region. It literally means Stream of the Lat people. This is the most favourist destination I've ever come. My honeymoon has been there.
