Tam Tran has been a jewelry designer and metal-smith for close to a decade. Starting Lost Wax Studio in Nolita fulfills her dream of creating an interactive space to share knowledge and show the work of other local, independent designers. All of Tam’s instructors are working jewelry designers like her, and bring their unique experience and skills to the table as they share their craft.
Join your hostess, Geeta, in a private home in the U-Street Corridor for a vegetarian feast for the senses. Geeta prepares all the food fresh, using age-old recipes handed down by her mother. She joins you for dinner to share her masala dabba, or spice box, and discuss the cultural and religious backstory to the meal. Learn the secrets of the Jains and their unique diet, and play with your food in a lively taste and sniff game after dinner. Geeta grew up in a Gujarati Jain home in suburban Chicago. As an adult she realized no one knew what that meant—that Gujarat is a state in India and Jainism a religion. Through her unique blend of supper and storytelling, Geeta aims to share the rich history of her ancestors, one meal at a time. Note: Guests will be notified of the secret dinner location a day before the event. Wine and beer are BYOB.
