A local favorite for Peking duck, Chef Dong’s menu has evolved over the years to encompass a more contemporary style of food. The geoduck clam dish, presented in an ice-ball and served with Sichuan peppers, is one such effort, but the mainstay is still his roast duck. There are many locations around the city, but go to the older one, at Nanxincang 南新仓—a beautiful space that has been restored and formerly served as the imperial family’s granary. Ask for recommendations on tasting menus if you need a bit of help with ordering the right dishes—done right, they’ll complement each other.
