The Tulum Ruins for sure... take a towel and some snacks so that you can lounge on the magnificent beach there after you have walked the ruins.

Rent bikes... it is a nice way to get around during the day and the center of town isn't too far by bike and beats the taxis. There isn't much light at night so restrict the bike riding to the daylight hours.

Restaurants on the beach... there are many and they are all good... Walk along the water and pop into the place that gives you a good vibe... we did this for breakfast, lunch, and dinners.

Hit a party... the hotel owners appear to coordinate the parties so that they don't fall on the same night of the week so ask where the party will be when you'll be in Tulum. Each hotel has a beach bar and its like all the hip folks in Tulum migrate to the party on any given night of the week. On the Friday we were in Tulum the party was at Retiro Maya (also a great place to stay on the beach) and had a flamenco guitar group from Spain.

Do yoga... again, ask for the hotels with yoga studios and classes... there are many and they are usually setup in a veranda on the beach! It doesn't get better than that!

Eat pollo... there are a few chicken places in the town that basically give you the whole chicken (assuming your not a vegetarian) where the meat falls right off the bone served with rice and peppers. This is a great value too. I think the place across from the bus station is called "Pollo Bronco"... "Pollo" will usually be in the name...

Tulum is magical and my favorite place in the Yucatan! Please have a fresh strawberry margarita for me!

Cheers,

Rey

Definitely the Tulum Ruins. If you can rent a car the ruins at Coba were worth the day-trip. Rent a bike and explore or just walk around town into the side streets - there are lots of little restaurants and fresh juice shops. Restaurants at the beach hotels are a little expensive, but check them out for lunch specials. Most are right on the beach so you can get some food then spend the afternoon.

The Tulum ruins are great. there are a lot of packages offered that include a trip to the ruins, underwater caves and adventure park. There's an adventure park offering a really long zipline which I enjoyed.
You need a good guide or guidebook for the ruins. I would also suggest a trip to Chichen-itza..
Come early to avoid the tourist hordes.

Take Spanish classes at Instituto Chac-Mool Spanish School in Tulum. Great school, homestays with local families.

For Food... El Tabano! the best Mexican! And Hartwood, beautiful outdoor setting.
best local grub... El Camello in town.
Swim in a Cenote - incredible experience... ask the locals where/when to go to avoid crowds.
Villa Las Estrellas is a great place to stay - they have brand new suites! and the food there is also delicious.
Enjoy! It's an amazing place!
