I have to say that I disagree with the previous answer. I have spent lots of time in Acapulco and never had any problems (including bringing 70 Mexican kids on a trip there). My favorite places near Acapulco are actually in Pie de la Cuesta, a small town about a half hour north. Last time I was there we had a great meal at Vayma Hotel.
