What are some good things to see/do in Montreal? I'm looking for things that may not be in a travel guide. Or at least not in the top 10 highlights section.

One of my favorite bars of all time is in Montreal - called Baldwin Barmacie.

I loved that bar! Such a unique experience.

I also had a great meal at Fonduementale -

Boris Bistro is another great place with a cool patio dining area; fries are great!

Definitely eat poutine while you are in Montreal - a regional delicacy!

Have some local beers - especially Boreal which is only found in the Quebec Province and of course Unibroue beers are amazing (but easily found in the states)

A great place to walk is Mount Royal;

People swear by cheap and good meals at the strip bars along St Catherine's. No lie. I did not go that route but I heard it from multiple people.

Have fun - Montreal is a a big city and very spread out. Great for walking!

Cheers!

If you want nature you can visit Mont Royal, Beaver Lake, or the St. Lawrence River.

I haven't been to Mont Royal or Beaver Lake, but I've heard they are a must-see. I like the river, though I've only been down to Verdun once. It's got a relaxed vibe and odd small town feel on Wellington st. along the river, you almost forget you're in a city, but keep in mind, it is winter.

Personally, I like markets...though I haven't been to one yet, I'm waiting till reading week to go. I hear Jean Talon Market is great, and the Atwater Market is also quite nice. Both are by their respective metro stops.

There's a great vegan restaurant downtown...can't remember the name, but I'm sure if you google it, you can find it.

I go to Concordia University (downtown). We have a greenhouse at the top of the Hall building on Maisonneuve St. and a free vegan lunch at 12:30 during the weekdays.

Good luck!

Yeah, pretty much. They don't I.D. you or anything, but if you're carrying a hiking bag with all your stuff from traveling, it might be a little strange.

If you want to know where send me a message.

And if you want shops and things, just walking down St. Denis or St. Laurent will do it. G'luck!

The best thing that we did in Montreal was take a three hour bike tour with My Bicyclette. We had a great tour guide named Stephanie who showed us the whole layout of the city, gave a lot of interesting information and of course a few delicious tasters. The tour is a bit pricy, but I would say worth it!

For food Olive & Gourmando for breakfast is a must. The pastries are just out of this world and the egg sandwich is delicious as well!

Hi

Depends on what you are interested in and at what time of year you are planning on being in Montreal.

Please specify and then I can help you further.

Also.. what kinds of food and what price range so I can suggest restos and hotel accomodations.

Hey.  I'm not looking to spend more than $120 per night on a hotel.  I would probably not want to spend more than $50 per night (per person) for dinner.  But I'm hoping most of my meals will cost significantly less than that.  I'm going in March and I'm probably going for something like 5 days.  I'm interested in nearly everything:)

Thanks.

To that point, try the fixed price menu at Beurre Noisette (link below) to date it's one of the most memorable meals I've ever had, buffalo steak for the win!

The coffee is to die for and so are the pastries. I also recommend Cali's it's Vietnamese food in chinatown and your money will go far there. Montreal can be trop cher so watch your exchange rates, sometimes it's easier and cheaper to take the exchange hit on your credit card.

Check out if there's anything happening at the techno parc sometimes there are concerts and there's a famous Buckminster-Fuller on the island left from one of the world fairs, it's a must see! Bon Voyage!

Stroll Old Montreal (can easily spend half a day)

A day of shopping

Take one of the half-day city tours

Consider adding a few days in Quebec City...highly recommend traveling by Via Rail if you do that.

The Biodome is worth a visit. The 1976 Olympics were held in this building. It was then converted into a museum featuring live animals from the earth's different regions. Its fascinating and beautiful. If you like Art, I would visit the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

The Montreal Jazz Festival is an exciting time to be in the city -- late June to early July.
