Take the train from the airport direct to union station in DC Best available option!

Add a commentYou can also take the MARC train from BWI but that involves one more step. You have to take a shuttle bus to the train station, then take the MARC train to Union Station in DC, where you can board the metro.

The Northwest Regional train on Amtrak goes between BWI and D.C. Union Station for about $14; takes about 35-40 minutes. Or you can take the Acela train, also Amtrak, but it's not really that much faster and costs at least $20 more.

Add a commentThere is a BWI metro express bus that is a direct bus to the Washington Metro system and stops at the Greenbelt Metro station in DC. You can get more info at www.wmata.com

Add a commentAlly's right. Although they recently raised the bus fare to $6. You need exact change/bills. If you just have a $20 or $10 bill, just get change at the airport before you board the bus. Here's a direct link to the B30 bus schedule on WMATA.COM. http://wmata.com/bus/timetables/view.cfm?line=165 The bus ride to the metro is about 30 minutes. The Greenbelt Metro is actually in MD but it's part of the DC Metro system. From there to downtown is about a 25 minute trip. So, basically one hour of transport time, aside from waiting.

You can take the MARC train from BWI to Union Station and take the metro to whereever you need to go in DC.

Add a commentMARC (commuter train) is good and cheap option, but does not run on weekends.

Add a commentYou can take the MARC, get a taxi or a bus. I would say a bus is probably the best and easiest of them all.

Add a commentYou can also take the Super Shuttle, which is sort of like a group taxi and will take you to your door. More info: http://www.supershuttle.com/en/BWIAirportShuttleBaltimore.html

Add a commentI'm with many of the others and suggest MARC - www.mta.maryland.gov/services/marc as the most cost effective way to get to DC. For $6 you'll get to Union Station in DC. Or you could grab an Amtrak train from the same station at BWI Airport. You could also take Super Shuttle, but that will be upwards of $30.

Add a commentIsaac,
I take this route all the time and the above AFAR friends have given you good advice. Here's the step-by-step:
1. After you get off the Southwest flight you'll go to the baggage claim ("bags fly for free:)").
2. Head out the doors in front of you and go to the left until you find a sign that says bus for "Train Station/Amtrak." It's within 200-500 feet depending on what door you're walk out of and you may see a line of people with suit cases waiting for the train. During the week day it comes every 15 minutes or so. You'll notice a lot of other buses going, but look for the Amtrak one. Don't cross the street as the waiting area right outside the airport doors.
3. The ride is pretty quick...5 minutes or so. Go into the train station and find the ticket machines (quick and easy to use). Select 1 traveler, Union Station/DC, MARC Train, one way if you're not doing a round trip (I don't think you save money if you do the MARC for a round trip). The MARC will run you $6.
4. You'll arrive at Union Station and have several choices: 1) Bus 2) Metro 3) Taxi 4) Friend/rental car. The bus is located in front of Union Station, the Metro is under the station (you'll see signs) and of course taxis are in front.
Enjoy!

To sum up: MARC train is the best option but doesn't run on weekends. Amtrak also offers a train, but it's far less frequent - but does (occasionally) run on weekends. And there is a bus, plus Super Shuttle (which can be 'super' slow as it drops off X number of people before you - it's sort of a crap shoot). And, as a last and expensive resort, there are cabs too.

The fastest and least expensive route I have found is to take the Marc train. Its schedule will be a good fit with several trains running and goes straight into the Union Station.

Add a commentThe MARC train is definitely the best option, or the BWI to DC bus. If you can not take those because of your flight arrival time, Rainbow Transportation is another option. It's a sedan service, but it is about the same price as a taxi. http://www.rainbowtrans.com/ You can book it online. Ray is the owner, and he will be there right when your flight arrives waiting at the baggage claim.

Add a commentSouthwest flied to Baltimore and Dulles. From BWI you can take the train to Union Station and from Dulles the Washington Flyer runs shuttle service to the West Falls Church Metro which takes you downtown.

Add a commentYou can get a Washington Flyer bus that will get you into DC, or there is a MARC train station near the airport that will take you into Union Station in DC. From there you can get a taxi, or connect to the Metro.

Add a commentI took the train from the airport straight to Union Square. Super easy to figure out, as soon as you leave your gate you'll see so many signs pointing you int he direction of transit options.

Add a commentSince the metro goes directly from BWI to DC you should be all set. It is the best way to go around the entire DC area
