May be a little odd, but I'm planning to go to Cairo next week. Does anyone have any contacts there?

I don't have any contacts in Egypt but I've been to Tunisia many times and if you want a photographer, I am willing and ready to accompany you. What has transgressed there is pure freedom...

isn't it amazing?  I'm anxious to see what it is like on the ground there.  But there will be some tough times ahead, I'm afraid, but I am very optimistic in the long term.

Greg, you sure picked a good time to visit Cairo!  I bet you'll be the only tourist there and have your pick of anything at "a very good price, my friend".  I bet all contacts are out in the streets and can't be reached anyway.  Good luck and have fun!  Stay Safe

What an exciting time to be visiting Cairo!  The images of the Egyptians out in the streets yesterday cleaning up after the protests was a great metaphor for how they are hoping to clean up their future government.  I hope that they are able to keep the democratic momentum going and don't fall into a lot of bitter power battles as they establish a constitution and new government.   This might be one trip you want to register with the US State Department just in case anything flares up again.  They'll know you are in the country and how to contact you in case the situation changes while you are there.  The website also has information about the current travel warnings and emergency contact numbers.    www.travel.state.gov        Enjoy witnessing the early stages of the new Egypt!

Hi Greg, Yes, I do have a good friend who lives in Cairo. If you want to email me directly, we can chat about your trip a bit more and I can probably put you in touch. Feel free to send me an email address, I will email you directly, and we can take it from there. BTW, it is probably a great time to go to Cairo, as everything is in a happy state at this point. Who knows what the future holds for Egypt!

shoot.  I didn't see this before i left.  We ended up hiring a photojournalist while I was there too.  This guy had been beaten up and blindfolded in jail prior to the fall of Mubarak.

you are right though.  It was a great time to be there.  amazing in fact.  and very safe.

Look forward to catching up.
