Is the Beginning of September or October a better time to go to Peru?
What's the weather like?

If you are thinking about this year, please act fast. Much is booked and sold out for those months this year. If you are thinking of any part of the Inca Trail it is completely sold out for September and as of this minute there are only 4 days with any opening for October towards the end and that will probably be sold very soon. Weather is good that time of year in the southeastern Andes. Mostly sunny days and cool nights.

Add a commentThank you so much for your advice. I'm planning to go this year. I'm not doing the Inca Trail. I'm going to take the train to Aguas Caliente & take a bus up Machu Pichu. I heard that I need to reserve or get a ticket to go up Machu Pichu. Is that correct? How far in advance do I need to reserve it?

Machu Picchu itself is not a bit issue for entries but if you want to climb Huayna Picchu, you must purchase your entry with this included. It costs about 10.00US more. You cannot purchase this separately or after the fact. Plus, there are only 400 entrances allowed each day for Huayna Picchu. Good luck

Hi Theresa! I'm heading there in October. :) When I checked Machu Picchu permits a couple months ago, they were all sold out in September and running out in October when I got mine about a month ago.
This is the site someone sent me regarding the permit availability: http://www.andeantravelweb.com/peru/treks/inca_trail_trek_permit_availability.html. I booked through www.IncaTrailReservations.com and they're very helpful if you need questions answered. Good luck! Maybe I'll see you there!

Add a commentThanks so much for your help! This is good to know. I'm still debating whether to do the trail or just take the train & then bus up there. Hope to see you there as well!

I'm doing the two-day, which is train/trek up/night in Aguas Calientes/guided tour of the valley/bus back. I wanted to trek. My friend wanted to train. This was our compromise. :)
