I'm going to Seattle in March. Any advice on cafes, restaurants, bars, or local secrets that aren't touristy?

I second the Capitol Hill area and love a restaurant there called Quinn's Pub

My friend that lives in the city recommended Umi for HH
for Fusion: Wild Ginger
For a Fremont St area beer bar - Browers plus there is also the chocolate store there Theo's Don't forget to go see the Fremont Troll under the bridge :)

I also, like The Stumbling Monk for a beer bar - in capitol hill area. Kind of a beater bar, but cool.
A wine bar - Purple - maybe a little touristy but I like it! You can order small plates to pair with your wine choices. I like the upstairs bar there.
They have the adult Starbucks there....with alcohol, I think called the 15th Ave Coffee and Tea House....it's a concept store.
Cheers!

sure. my main advice is to get out of the downtown, waterfront, fish-throwing area and head into the neighborhoods: Fremont, Ballard, Capitol Hill, etc., where you'll get the real deal.
just a few suggestions:
for coffee, check out Lighthouse in the Fremont neighborhood. a few blocks to the east you'll find Paseo. nothing fancy, but they make perfect Cuban sandwiches.
plenty of great (and new) restaurants and bars on Ballard Ave. in the Ballard neighborhood: The Walrus and the Carpenter (oysters), Bastille (French), etc. Thaiku and Balmar are good bars, but there are plenty in this area. La Isla (Puerto Rican) and Ocho (Tapas) on Market Street, are great too.
have fun.

Add a commentFantastic suggestions so far, I'll only try and add a couple.
Homegrown - 2 locations, in Fremont and top of Queen Anne, has sandwiches made only with locally-sourced ingredients and interesting flavors.
Serious Pie - Again, 2 locations - 1 downtown behind Dahlia Lounge and the brand new (and easier to get into) South Lake Union location. This is local celeb-chef Tom Douglas' foray into pizza, just don't expect anything close to delivery. It is also in the same space as Soul Wine which has tastings until 7. http://www.yelp.com/biz/serious-pie-seattle-2
Enjoy!

Add a commentManeki in the International District has great sushi. The Tin Table in Capitol Hill has a lovely atmosphere and fantastic small plates. Sambar in the Ballard/Fremont neighborhood has a great vibe and fantastic inventive cocktails. Flying Squirrel Pizza Company (in The Sunset Tavern) in Ballard has fantastic gourmet pizzas with mostly locally sourced ingredients. For a very special dinner, I would suggest either Staples & Fancy Mercantile in Ballard (be sure to opt for the Chef's Menu), or Le Gourmand (the French restaurant that sits next to the Sambar suggestion noted above).

Add a commentI recommend the 5 Spot Cafe in Queen Anne. It's a favorite, but it can get busy. Haven't had to wait more than 20 mins for a table, though. All along Broadway in Capitol Hill you'll find restaurants and coffee places!
