I'm going to Basildon, UK, for a couple days of work. Should I stay in Basildon, or are there other interesting towns or cities within a 30 minute train ride?

Arndis, there is nothing worth seeing in Basildon! Frankly that part of Essex is nothing to write home about. However you can see how East Enders enjoy their summer by visiting the main seaside resort, Southend On Sea - fish and chips and kiss-me-quick hats. It will be an experience you will not forget! There's a lovely theatre too - the Cliffs Paviliion.
