Camille, you will have to book the ticket through irctc.co.in. Create an account there and off you go. It is a pretty slow site so be prepared for some switchbacks and re-logins :-)

Also inform your credit company that you are making a payment on this website. We tried a couple of years ago and the transaction wouldn't go through. The next morning Amex called to say that they had blocked payment as we had never used that site before. After that it was ok.

Camille - when are you buying the tickets for? Delhi to Kolkata is one of the busiest train routes in India. That may be another reason why the website jammed up.
There is another website - makemytrip.com - try booking your ticket through that - it is going to take a service charge as it is not a railways site, but it should work. you have to make an account for that too. But choose the option of 'not remembering your credit card information'
Hope this helps.
