Hey everyone,

I'll be in San Francisco for the first time Labor day weekend. I wanted to find out from anyone a couple of places that you would consider a must try for eating. I like pretty much anything, not a huge fish fan but if it's a shouldn't miss i'll give it a try. Also I prefer to try local eateries, stuff you can't find anywhere else. Nothing overly expensive or where I need to dress up to eat., I'm a shorts and flip flops guys, so anything in the $10-$25 per meal range is fine.

Thanks in advance for any help
Frank

Try Albona (near but not AT Fisherman's Wharf) the food is Istrian which has Italian and Eastern European influence (Istria is a part of Croatia.) It is one of our favorties is not OVERLY fancy (dress nicely but shorts should be no problem (you do know SFO is cool this time of year right?) Here is a link to give you more info- http://albonarestaurant.com/

Have a great time!

My favorite casual places: Mission Chinese (Mission) and Tony's (Pizza in North Beach)

Definitely plan to head to the Mission for at least one of your meals/evenings. While they're plenty of good and fancy restaurants (Commonwealth, Mission Local Eatery, Locanda, Beretta, Bar Tartine, etc.), there's also of plenty of down-to-earth places as well.

Any of the Taquerias near Valencia and 16th are a good choice, as well as Casa Sanchez and Papalotte's on 24th. Rosamunde on Mission is also low-key and good, although more hipster than local food.
