Heading to Portugal for about a week in June (Lisbon and Porto with a daytrip to Sintra). I want to get a really good taste of Portuguese cuisine while I'm there. What are some fun, authentic restaurants that you don't see in all the guidebooks? We'll be a group of three twenty-somethings looking for a range of super cheap bites (under 5 euros), cheap meals (5-15 euros), and mid-range dinners (15-30 euros per person) to carry us through the week. Seafood at Cervejaria Ramiro, pasteis de nata in Belem, and roast chicken at Bom Jardim are already on our list after doing the usual research, but we're looking for some other places we haven't heard of, especially in Porto. Any other suggestions you have for sights, bars, or other must-dos are appreciated as well! Muito obrigada!

Hi Jess,
See a few of my posts :

This fish place in Setubal (a bit outside Lisbon) was a great experience!
Casa da India was a great local experience
and Cantinho do Bem Estar.... great fish as well in Barrio Alto.
I also went to a very cool, sort of secret steak place in Lisbon... can't remember the name but the steak and ambience was fantastic.
Enjoy, Lisbon is awesome!

Add a commentHi Jess,
If you're gonna do Porto-Lisboa I strongly recommend you to make a stop in Óbidos, it's a tiny village given to a queen as a gift! You're gonna love it! I wouldn't spend a entire day in Sintra, only Castelo d'Ajuda is worthy there and you can easily do it in one morning. Every single restaurant in Portugal serves good and honest food (they are like the italians!), the only thing I would say to you is that cod, lamb and pork are the cheapest dishes in all menus, so enjoy them! Seafood in Lisbon is superbe and wines in Porto are outstanding! I recommend you Ferreira e Real Companhia Velha.
A great trip for you all and have fun!
