Depends on what you want. I don't know anything about Isla Mujeres, but it's close. Tulum is wonderful, slower paced and you can snorkel in cenotes, walk on the beautiful beach, go to Sian Kan (natural reserve with a floating river) and the ruins. Isla Holbox is the furthest away, but amazing. Check to see if the whale sharks will be there in April. If so, it's worth heading out to snorkel with them.

Agree - Tulum is just an amazing piece of history. Does get very touristy but you should get time on your own - if with a tour - do spend time exploring on your own.  Isla Mujeres is fun but you will need own transportation - moped/golf cart to see it. The "park" is really a nature reserve. Depending on where you are home based though, these two are complete opposites in travel direction. If staying in Playa del Carmen - Cozumel is just as good as Isla Mujeres.

Yep, I agree with the rest-- can't miss Tulum. Quaint, laid back, spiritual, amazing ruins-- and don't forget to get a Mayan Clay body/face treatment! ;)

Tulum. And on your way you can visit Akumal where these is amazing snorkeling on the reef right from the beach and  Puerto Morelso where the quaint town square right on the beach is a hang out for Mexican families and there is little tourism. And once you are in Tulum, if you are brave enough you can drive down into the Sain Ka'an biosphere and hunt for wild crocodile, especailly at the boca piala bridge,

I agree with Talum and the fabulous Coast around Akumal on your way down. Be sure to go to Chichen Itza!  I also really enjoyed Isla Mujeres to spend a day swimming with the giant turtles.

Tulum is a really old mayan city, it's perfect to sight see :) Isla mujeres is a tourist island it's really small and full of little shops and restaurants. Holbox is a little fishing village, just went this december, it's mainly under construction right now, but all the beaches in mexico are beautiful sooo. I would see Isla mujeres :D you just need to take a cheap ferry from cancun. ENJOY!!

agreed with all above.  I ♡ Tulum.  spent my birthday there in October and can honestly say it was one of the loveliest beaches I've ever seen.  lots of small boutique style hotels running on wind and solar power, great food.  very chill but gorgeous.
