Yes but ten years ago now. I have traveled all over west africa but have not been to south or east africa. So, if you have been on safaris in the south or the east, I imagine Mole would be a bit of a disappointment. But as I had not, I thought it was a great first safari. All on foot, as we didnt have the time necessary to venture further into the park, ie we only had one day. but we did see live elephants up close - nothing between us except our guide and his rifle - a bit scary but amazing. I visited Mole in January 2003 and it was my first 'wildlife' experience in West Africa, or anywhere else in Africa. The elephants were beautiful, and I recall seeing some warthogs, but can't remember seeing other animals besides these. I wonder how I would feel about Mole now, after having lived in South Africa ...

Add a commentI was there in December! It's the cheapest safari you'll ever go on but the only "big 5" animal you'll see is elephant and that's if you go during the dry season (dec-mar). The only place to stay is Mole Motel which is decent and inexpensive. Personally, I loved it but I've never been on a safari before and was excited to see elephants. My friend has been on a safari before and he wasn't as impressed. I liked it though because you walk with a guide and get VERY close to the elephants. I was in awe. The motel is on the edge of a cliff that overlooks the wateringhole and you can have breakfast and watch the animals all around the watering hole which is great. Baboons and warthogs plant themselves in front of your hotel room door which is pretty funny. The baboons aren't scared of you and will come right up and steal your sunglasses off your dinner table. I liked the park but it was a big trip to get there all the way from the south of Ghana (about a day and half on buses. You have to stay overnight in Tamale which isn't bad because it's a cool little town) and its the kind of place that you should only stay for about 2 days and then move on.
