Any suggestions for beach resorts in Bali? Planning to spend 4-5 nights in mid November, flying in/out of Denpasar.

It depends on your budget. For luxury I like the Intercontinental on Jimbaran Bay for its close to the airport and boy is it nice. Moreover its close to the beach restaurants; my favourite is Cafe Teba. A nice moderate choice is the Novotel Benoa located just outside of Nusa Dua. They have some really cool swimming pools and I enjoyed watching the sun go down lying down on their lounge chairs. But my favourite is this 3 star hotel located about 5 minutes walk from the beach called Puri Bambu. They have a great pool, offer in room massages at very reasonable prices, and the rooms are really nice especially at the prices they offer. I use to visit on an annual basis and it was a nice feeling when the staff recognized me. It has become really popular lately so if you are interested you have to book early. Although there are no beach resorts in Ubud, I have to recommend two places I adore. Tegal Sari is close to the Perama bus stop and is surrounded by rice paddies. It is the real deal offering an authentic Balinese experience. Another place we stayed at was Furama Villas and it was really luxurious. Your villa is surrounded by high walls and each has its own plunge pool and outdoor shower. They treat you like royalty there which embarrassed me. I hope this helps and that you have a great time in Bali.

I've stayed at Intercontinental and highly recommend it. Also, it has a few restaurants next to it (beach side) . So I just walked out of the property into the beach, made a left and 200 feet later, seafood restaurant paradise. Cheap also!

I haven't been to a beach resort in Bali in 12 years when I went to Lovina Beach and Candi Dasa. Both were nice. Lovina had nice snorkeling. Candi Dasa didn't have much beach to speak of (erosion) but had a nice vibe. I don't like Kuta because it's too crowded and seems to be filled with lots of partying people. Where we have been several times and really adore for its relaxed vibe is the Bali Wisata Bungalows near Tanah Lot (north of Denpasar). The beach currents are too strong for swimming, surfing, etc., but the sand is black and there are often processions to the beach you can watch. Surrounded by rice paddies. They also have a salt water pool. If you just want to get away to somewhere to chill and soak in the local vibe, this is great. If you want a beach town where you can sun during the day and party at night, this isn't your cup of tea. Have fun wherever you decide to stay.

tons of places to stay on beach in Bali of course. a place I stayed in mountains above Bali. about hour and half is http://www.baliecolodge.com/
it's an amazing place with focus on sustainability and renewable energy. bungalows set naturally in beautiful flora/fauna. high in trees and above lush valleys.
couple who own it are lovely and interesting.
tell them hi from jayms and travel channel if you go there.

I think it is pointless to stay in a "resort" in Bali because there are so many great places to stay that offer great service and a unique feel. During our time in Bali we stayed at the W in Seminyak, the La Taverna in Sanur, a bungalow called Dream Village in Gilli T, and a guest house called Puri Bayu in Ubud.
The W and the other resorts are super luxurious and amazing, but are resorts and isolate you from all that Bali has to offer... every place we stayed offered impeccable service and breakfast.
We were lucky to have almost 3weeks on the island, but if I only had 5days I would head straight to Ubud!!! Stay in a guest house there... there are tons listed on Trip Adviser... Puri Bayu was amazing and I would highly recommend it!
I hope this helps!

Add a commentThanks for the suggestions, Rey! I agree - "resort" is a poor word choice. We hope to experience one or more beautiful beaches during our short stay, and a bungalow sounds much more our style.

Check out Sanur... we loved the pace of Sanur!! The beach is beautiful and calm there and there is a boardwalk you can bike/walk on... Also, this is a great place to take a boat to some nearby islands (e.g. Limbongan) that have picture perfect beaches and snorkeling... You're still close enough to everything to go explore, Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak... as well as the Ulu Watu area...
Bali is magical so there is no going wrong really!!!!

I just returned from Bvlgari Bali Resort in Uluwatu (Southern Bali). All Villa property, plunge pools, butler service and private beach access. Resort is romantic, understated elegance, with authentic Indonesian decor...The staff and food was excellent. The Spa and Bvlgari amenities...beautiful infinity pool...it was fabulous.
