African safari: Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa or Uganda? Want great animal life, great photo, very few people. Nice accommodations OK but not imperative, just not dingy. First trip. Side trip to Mozambique for diving? Thanks!

I've actually heard rave reviews of Botswana recently. Amazing game viewing, nice accommodations and wonderful people. Have a great trip!

This is one of my specialities. Check out GameWatchers Safaris, Porini Camps. Mohanjeet Bahr is the person to email. The Selous area of Tanzania is wonderful for game watching. Until this year, this area was only for hunting, but now open for photo safari.

Andy Biggs Safaris is excellent for photo safari. that is his speciality. Check out the websites. Each can arrange what you want. Or contact me.

Mozambique: Mozambique Voyages is top notch. Martijin Mallaart is the CEO. Mention my name, company Active Sojourns in Steamboat Springs, to both gentleman.

Good luck, Carol

I like to rough it with Dragoman, so I end up with about 70% camping and 30% hotels. My experience is that Rwanda/Uganda are gorilla and chimp destinations. Tanzania is the Serengetti. Between the Namibia pan handle east you have the Okavanga Delta, Chobe National Park and some others. South Africa is great, but quite spread out. There's much more, of course. How much time do you have? It took me 10 weeks to go from Rwanda down to Capetown.

If you are in South Africa, and probably most sub-Saharan African countries, I'd recommend renting a car and driving through parks on your own.  It is much cheaper than doing a safari and you have so much freedom to stop and check out whatever you'd like.

A tour will provide more info, and possibly luxury accommodations, and might be worth it if you're willing to spend the money.  Have fun:)

Hi there, I live in Botswana and the game viewing here is amazing!  They are generally on the expensive side... specific areas to look into are Chobe & the Okavango Delta in the North, or Madikwe just across the border in South Africa (30 minute drive from Gaborone).
