Zilker Park

Pack your picnic baskets and head out to Zilker Park for an evening of live, local music. Every other week during the summer, KGSR’s Blues on the Green returns to Zilker Park with free, live music. Take your blankets or lawn chairs and join in the fun. Zilker Park is located at 2100 Barton Spring Road, just east of MoPac and half a mile west of Lamar Blvd.

The Zilker Tree stands 155 feet tall and is composed of 39 streamers, each holding 81 multicolored, 25-watt bulbs - totaling 3,309 lights. This unique spiral pattern of lights was created by City of Austin electricians. On December 10, 1967, the first tree was lighted by Mayor Pro Tem Mrs. Emma Long. December 2-31, 2013, 6 pm - 12 midnight, tree on display nightly. REMINDER - December 7, 5K Fun Run, and 8-22 Trail of Lights Nights the area roads will be closed as thousands visit the Trail of Lights. If you are planning to visit the Holiday Tree itself, make sure to plan around those nights!

The Zilker Park Kite Festival is one of Austin’s best-known free annual events. Held on the first Sunday of March, it is the kick-off to the hundreds of springtime activities in Austin. This is an event where everyone is welcome to attend (pets too!). There is no admission to attend or to participate in the contest. Most folks come out to see the spectacular sight of hundreds of kites in the sky and to enjoy a spring day in the park. Zilker Park is an amazing green space ideal for everything from festivals, to lounging in the sun, breathing fresh air and spacing the indoors. Bring your blanket, your picnic basket and some sunproof cream!!
