I've heard a lot about Australian wine. I've probably drunk more of it. But have I drunk it in the right way? Have I savoured the scent, absorbed in the fragrance, considered the tannins, watched the bubbles, lost myself in the legs and been lured by the body. A day in the Yarra Valley in Victoria, and visits to De Bortoli, Rochford and Oakridge, a taste or ten of the dairy delights at Yarra Valley Daury and some conscience appeasing fruit and Wild About Fruit and I feel something more of, if not an expert, at least more educated than before. A feast for all senses indeed, the vast vista of vineyards and shining sun, the simmering scent of sharp and spicy wines, and the rich and tasty produce that grows in this valley making for something of an enjoyable day out.
