Frogmore stew? Sea grits? Yes, these might sound odd but they are just a part of the food of the lowcountry and Wren is one of the best at preparing and serving it to you. Wren is located just off the water in Beaufort. Their food is an eclectic mix of new southern cuisine. But, before we get there, start at the bar. The decor at Wren is amazing. I want my house to look this way. Contemporary but timeless, this is the lowcountry. Slide into a stool at the bar and sidle up next to locals for a cocktail, beer, or better yet, a glass of their amazing selection of wine. Wren actually began as a wine shop serving food. Now they are a restaurant with incredible wine. After chatting up the bartenders, head to your table and don't skip the salads. They might be a highlight of your meal. I cannot brag enough about the appetizers as well. A word of warning though, come hungry. The entree portions are huge. My wife and I usually share two salads or a salad and an appetizer then spit an entree. If you like shrimp and grits, choose the sea grits - - - a variation with lobster, shrimp and scallops. This is the best of the local waters! Also, don't forget desert. The difficult part is simply having room for it. You can always do what I do, order it to go and enjoy it at home. Wren is the best of the lowcountry!
