Last summer I had a free day in Galway, Ireland, and wanted to see what I could of the beautiful countryside. I thought about taking a bus west to the famous Cliffs of Moher, but I decided that spending most of the day on a bus wouldn't be much fun. Instead I took a shorter bus ride to the tiny town of Ballyvaghan and spent the afternoon walking the Wood Loop, an eight-kilometer path that skirts the edge of the Burren.
I saw a bit of the Burren's lunar landscape, but most of the path was covered in foliage, like this tree and the field behind it. The weather was typical Ireland, with a bit of cloud, a bit of rain, and some glorious sunshine here and there. I gave my new Canon a workout for the first five or six kilometers, but my photography-friendly pace meant that my legs got a workout for the last few kilometers, as I had to jog to catch my return bus.
If you want to experience the natural beauty of Ireland, I highly recommend going on foot!
