The burj al hawwa, or Wind Tower House, located in the courtyard of Najada Shopping plaza on Grand Hamad Avenue and Ali bin Abdullah street, is one of the few remaining traditional wind towers in the gulf and the only one in Qatar. The peculiarity of this tower is its ancient and natural, but effective, form of air conditioning so necessary in the harsh desert climate of Qatar in the times before electricity. This wind catcher consists of four openings facing in four directions, masonry walls, a well and an efficient combination of features that allows hot air to rise, leaving the building, and cool air to enter and move to the bottom.
Although the building is currently closed to the public, the tower is in plain and unobstructed view for everyone to photograph.
