Whale-Watching

Puerto Madryn is the best place in Argentina to see whales—they can even occasionally be seen right off the city's waterfront, with no need to board a boat. The southern right whales arrive here in May or June and give birth to their calves before heading on in December. Adult whales measure between 12.5 and 15.5 meters (41 to 51 feet), and calves are around four meters (13 feet) at birth. Whale-watching tours typically also include opportunities to see some of the area's sea lion colonies from the ocean, as well as cormorants and other bird species common here.
