The New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx is New York's preeminent horticultural destination. And while the grounds are pretty, and the Bronx River woodlands are peaceful, there's another garden in The Bronx with even better scenery. Wave Hill garden is located in the pristine and wealthy enclave of Riverdale. The neighborhood feels more like upscale New England towns than New York City. The 28 acre ground began as a private estate but was granted to New York City in 1960. Since then gardens, greenhouses, and woodlands have flourished. The plantings are wonderful and the woodland trails are relaxing. But best of all, the estate sits perched above the Hudson River, with commanding views up and down the valley. It's one of the most surprising and beautiful spots in the city.
