Wat Siphoutthabath

Wat Siphoutthabath, Luang Prabang, Laos.
Bugger off, Dos Equis. This here is the most interesting man in the world. This is the groundskeeper at utterly unpronounceable Wat Siphoutthabath in central Luang Prabang - in and of itself one of the most impressive temples in a city known for, uh... impressive temples. The groundskeeper is equal parts Chuck Norris and that dude from Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. Looking for proof? Check out the branch in his hand. He used it to knock down a bigger tree, which contained a bee hive, from which he procured honey, from which he made tea (citation needed). Anyway, the groundskeeper was keen to tour us around the complex, show us how to toss rocks at rabid dogs in a way that would deter and not maim them, and pose for photos. He loved this last bit; after each click he'd check my work, giving me a nod or a sideways glance of disapproval. If you make it out to this Wat, check out the viewpoint from this eastern perch - great vantage over both of Luang Prabang's muddy rivers. And tell the groundskeeper I say hello. I miss him.
