Hadrian’s New Legions
Two college friends and I setout across Northern England last summer following the remains of Roman Emperor Hadrian’s northern defense against the Scots – an 86-mile fortification running from sea to sea. Only small sections have withstood time, but many travelers make the trek. Emperor Hadrian’s army has long since vanished, but we found these British schoolboys preparing bravely to charge their teachers, using clipboards as shields and pencils as sabers.
