Washington state loves its murals! I've never seen so many lovingly painted scenes, ranging from whimsical parades to underwater oceanscapes to the fantastical tree of life shown here. Often, they're matter-of-factly painted onto the sides of everyday buildings—drugstores, post offices, or private homes—seemingly just for the heck of it. Even bus stop shelters are frequently decorated with colorful motifs. Keep an eye out as you wander Seattle, because a jaw-dropping mural could be just around the corner at any moment. The Seattle Murals website tracks them by neighborhood, but the best way to encounter one may be to stumble upon them randomly, as I did with this one outside a Capitol Hill Walgreens.
