Waimea Canyon State Park

Often described as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, this 22-kilometer (13.6-mile) valley is a kaleidoscopic array of scarlet earth, verdant valleys and raw volcanic crags. The main road, Waimea Canyon Drive, has a series of lookouts. The most popular are Waimea Canyon (past the 10-mile marker on Highway 550), the Puu Ka Pele (just after the 12-mile marker) and the Puu Hinahina (around the 13-mile mark). Continue onward into the mountains to explore Kokee State Park beyond.
