Having spent the sun-soaked afternoon spoiling my tongue with pinot noirs, we stumbled upon the "tree-house" at Vista Hills Vineyard. We'd visited most of the more well-known vineyards on the deservedly touted Dundee Hills, and we had not known of this little gem. Most of the vineyards look and feel as if they are trying to mimic the beauty of Napa, Bordeaux, or Tuscany (which are really beautiful to visit). Vista Hills, however, is quintessential Oregon: woodsy, laid-back, and quirky. They do not have a winemaker at the vineyard, instead presenting a variety of wines (including a tasty little rose) from guest wine makers. What they do with their grapes is amazing and quite a spectrum for any palate, wine-tasting guru, or anyone who likes a glass of vino with friend once in a while. If I were to throw a party anywhere in the state (or possibly become a stubborn squatter), I would choose here this place. Cheers!
