The Maya Site of Izapa

Izapa may not have the name recognition or UNESCO seal of endorsement that Chichén Itzá has, but as the largest Maya site in the state of Chiapas, it is definitely worth a visit. Archaeologists believe that Izapa was once more than two square kilometers (almost one square mile), and have discovered a half-dozen plazas and two ball courts, as well as other structures and stelae—all evidence of a well-developed Maya community.
