New York is a city with endless sights and diversions but time usually constrains most tourists and rarely do they get to see beyond Manhattan, save for DUMBO perhaps. Roosevelt island is a local gem, often left unvisited even by New Yorkers except for weekend outings in the summer. There's not much to see on the island but it is a great spot for a picnic or to explore on a bicycle. That said, riding the Roosevelt island tram affords one with a unique view of the city and to do so at sunset is quite beautiful. It's also one of the only two commuter aerial trams in North America.
