Two Brothers Motorbike from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City: Part Two Planning
"Adventure is just Bad Planning" - Unknown
When my brother came to Vietnam for the journey its was only for that reason, the journey. He signed up in hopes that this voyage would be as every bit exciting as we had both thought.
We planned ahead of time as much as possible for the four day trek down the country. Parts, People, Speed, Time, Hotels, Food, Gear, Tools, every thing was accounted for. Executing the drive would be the least of our worries. We would drive the opposite direction that the Top Gear gang did using the same itinerary. For us that would be starting the drive in costal city of Hue.
Vietnam I have regrettably come to realize has many other realities. One of the largest being efficiency.
If you watch the episode the gang travels to the town of Hue, then catches an overnight train by mistake to Hanoi. While planning this voyage it was the responsibility of my brother (seen here) to research is this train even existed and it does! It however, takes four days to go from Hanoi to Hue by train and that train only takes cargo and has no capacity to take passengers. Not the magic train that shows up when you want it to operating in a manor that you would hope to find. It is as the vietnamese would say " Can NOT... Impossible!!!".
This fact was only realized once my brother arrived in Vietnam and we faced the reality that this set back would add an additional two days to our drive that was planned to take an easy four.
