Lychees, Taro, and Bananas Oh My - Sunshine Markets on Kauai
No lions, no tigers, nor bears, but on Kauai, there are lychees, taro, and bananas galore. Come and enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of the farmers' labor at one of the many Sunshine Markets on Kauai! With the nickname of the Garden Isle, it's no wonder that I describe Kauai to my friends as nature on steroids. With epic conditions for growing as well as super expensive produce shipped from afar in local stores, it is no surprise why farmer’s markets or Sunshine Markets are very popular in Kauai. Here's a little taste of what you can find: *Opo (long Chinese Squash) *Okra *Eggplant *Asian Cucumbers *Jicama (Mexican Yam) *Kabocha Squash (similar to pumpkin) *Taro *Avocados *Peppers *Rambutan (red hairy fruit like lychee) *Lilikoi (Passion Fruit) *Longan (another lychee family fruit) *Pineapple *Coconut *Bananas *Ulu (Breadfruit) *Tangerines *Flowers (Bird of Paradise, Orchids, & more) And, there is a Sunshine Market everyday. So, there should be no excuse for not visiting one or many on your adventure to Kauai. Tips: *Go early and bring your own bags! *Greet with Aloha and Thank with Mahalo! *My favorites are in Kapa'a on Weds, Lihue on Friday, and Hanalei on Saturday.
