Think of a place to enjoy word-famous comedians and you immediately think of Hollywood. Ventura, California may not come to mind since it’s mostly known for its great beaches and laid back lifestyle. The Ventura Harbor Comedy Club attracts big name comedians as well as up-and-comers. It’s located at Ventura Harbor Village, which offers plenty of harbor side dining. We picked The Greek at The Harbor, ate our kabobs and enjoyed watching the waiters dance with tables and chairs. We had plenty of time to catch the 9 p.m. show. We saw a number of comedians—some had us in stiches—others, well, they’re still honing their craft, but it was all good fun. Since our table was front and center, we got our share of friendly ribbing from the stage.
Run by comedians Randy Lubas and Andy Fernandez, the club pulls in top talent and provides a venue for newbies to blossom. There’s a $15 cover and it’s strictly 21 and older comedy.
The club is also one of the venues for the Ventura Comedy Festival that takes place every September.
