Vallianos Square (also known as Plateia Valianou) is Argostóli’s main square, named for its benefactor, Panagis Vallianos, whose statue sits in the center. The square is one of the best places in town to escape the heat and find a bit of peace and quiet—grab an empty seat at café terrace, sip a Greek frappe and people watch. In the later part of the afternoon, when residents emerge as the sun begins to descend, musicians play traditional Greek tunes and the square overflows with life again.
