Take New Zealand's stellar wine grapes and add a soupçon of French flair, and the resulting wine is practically guaranteed to be delicious. French Peak Wines are produced just outside Akaroa, where the original French settlers first planted their vines. The vineyard currently produces a pinot grigio, a barrel-fermented chardonnay and a Provençal-style rosé made with pinot noir grapes. The cellar door is open daily for tasting and bottle sales, and accommodation is available in their timber barn. Note that the nearby French Farm Vineyard is open only for weddings and functions.
