Ganesh Utsav , a 10 day festival popular in western India
Ganesh Utsav, is a 10 day festival celebrating the birth of Ganesha (Elephant headed Indian God). It starts with bringing in the idol with full fervor at a community 'Pandal' (stall) or at homes. People thong various pandals to worship and at the end of the 10th day , the idols are immersed in holy waters.
This photo, was taken at a place where artist hand sculpt idols from mud, or plaster of paris, and give it shape, color and finishing touches. The sizes of this idol varies from few centimeters to a few feet. Some idols are as tall as 20 feet. These idols are then sold to different pandal organisers.
