Ice Sailing/Racing on Lake Baikal | Siberia
April, 2012 - Irkutsk, Siberia I arrived from NY met my German friends here and traveled with guide, in minibus for the 5 hour ride up to Lake Baikal. Why? To photograph the 2012 Russian Iceboat Championship. The boats were "DN"s for the adults and "Ice Opti" for the Juniors (see photo above). We stayed at a modest, very clean inn/lodge/resort called Uyuga, with only a short walk down to the ice. We raced on what is called "The Little Sea". In the photo above Dimitri, Is sailing towards Olkhorn Island, On the top of the hill is one of only two Buddhist "Stupas" in Siberia/Russia. Considered very sacred, it is worth the trip over to walk around and experience the energy within.
