Since 1802, this once strategic fort has been educating and training leaders of the U.S. Army. The best way to explore America's oldest military post are to take the one or two-hour guided combination walking and bus tours especially when school is in session. Watching the cadets exercise and walk to class gave us a glimpse into their regimented lifestyle. Although we were told not to approach the cadets, it was special to be amongst those who will defend America's freedom upon graduation. Surrounded by some of the most spectacular views of the Hudson River, we were treated to the academy's incredible history, tales, stories, and notable graduates such as Robert E. Lee, President Ulysses S. Grant, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, President Dwight Eisenhower, and Norman Schwarzkopf. The most amusing part of the visit was seeing the hand-painted "Beat Navy/Sink Navy" signs on the rock formations and buildings referring to the intense Army-Navy football rivalry held every December.
